The VP of Technology for Telemundo of Puerto Rico is a key leadership position that is responsible for shaping and executing the technical vision for the station and ensuring continuity and excellence in day-
to-day broadcast operations. The VP of Technology will be reporting to the General Manager and President of WKAQ -TV, San Juan, PR.
Job Responsibilities :
Work closely with GM and leadership team to execute strategic vision.
Develop and execute the overall technical strategy for the station.
Partner with all station departments to identify and meet technical needs.
Develop and execute department operating budget and station annual capital plan.
Establish solid vendor relationships.
Recruit and develop technical and operational staff. Provide on-going feedback and coaching.
Overall leadership responsibility for the following operational areas :
Broadcast Operations :
Compliance with FCC regulations / records
Implement policies and procedures to maintain complete end-to-end broadcast product
reliability and quality .
Design and maintain disaster recovery plans
Manage relationship with commercial / programming acquisition and master control hub
Actively participate in Stations’ staff meetings and monthly DOT calls with Division staff
News & Studio Operations :
Maintenance of Station Equipment :
Transmission and Tower
Studio Equipment (control rooms, cameras, audio, etc.)
Field equipment (cameras, fleet, etc.)
Infrastructure (racks and cabling)
Information Technology :
Infrastructure (servers, computers, network switches, network routers, etc.)
Power, HVAC, EHS program, etc.
Qualifications / Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or IT or related field
Minimum 4 years of experience as senior leader at a station, network and / or cable technical operation
15+ years in broadcast / production engineering maintenance experience required.
Lead the team on planning, anticipating operational needs, and executing cross-departmental Projects.
Solid experience with field operations, non-linear editing, satellite & digital transmission and all facets of digital technology.
Experience in system design and integration.
Must be willing to submit to a background investigation
Must be able to work evenings, weekends & holidays as required and be regularly on-call to resolve issues.
Bilingual (Spanish and English) a plus
Experience developing and managing budgets for technical operations
Demonstrated track record of executing projects on time and on budget
Strong time-management skills, ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, high pressure environment
Excellent communication skills
Solid understanding of emerging technologies
Creative thinker who is knowledgeable in all facets of digital technology and broadcasting
Detail and process orientation. Able to analyze current processes, define and implement improvements and best practices
