The American Red Cross is seeking an experienced community organizer / mobilizer with management experience to coordinate community convening and problem solving around Hurricane Irma recovery and resilience building.
The Supervisor will lead community recovery efforts in a geographically defined area under the direction of Long Term Recovery, Chapter leadership.
The Supervisor will utilize an established strategy, to develop and / or participate with Long Term Recovery Committees, Unmet Needs committees, and other coalitions of community leaders and stakeholders that will then identify and act on recovery priorities.
The position will be located in Puerto Rico. This is a full time, benefits eligible position that is expected to last 24 months.
Duties include :
Direct, coordinate, and manage community recovery specialists.
Produce plans and reports as required for Long Term Recovery leadership.
Work in partnership with Long Term Recovery Grants, Communications and Case Management to ensure that impacted communities have access to needed recovery resources and clients are supported in recovery.
Work closely with Liaisons to ensure that Community Recovery Specialists coordinate effectively with government partner agencies.
Working in partnership with community leaders and stakeholders to : Update and consolidate community assessments to accurately reflect impact of the storm, response and recovery efforts to date, and assess the gaps between needs and resourcesShare resources appropriately for dissemination to Case ManagementConduct strategic planning for community recovery interventions, facilitate meetings and broker action among multiple community sectorsConvene subject matter experts on community / client resources to share information around available assistance and support
Perform a variety of outreach activities such as establishing contacts and attending community meetings
Look for opportunities for the American Red Cross to have a visible presence at community events
Act as a liaison among community actors. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with community agencies, schools, businesses, various levels of government and the general public.
Monitor progress through collecting data both qualitative and quantitative.
Qualifications : Bachelor’s degree, though Master’s degree preferred. 3-5 years related experience and 1-3 years in a supervisory role.
Extensive experience in working at the local community level. Experience leading the planning and implementation phases of community projects.
Ability to work with diverse opinions and reach consensus. Understanding of disaster recovery preferred. Knowledge of local community required.
Ability to follow prescribed procedures. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to be flexible and multi-
task. Good organizational skills are a must. Good team player. Must possess cultural sensitivity. Management experience of volunteers and / or staff.
